Cloud technology reduces CO2 footprint

Symate's Detact software system for industrial IoT, big data and AI is now also being used at Gerhardi Kunststofftechnik. The surface specialist will use the scalable AI infrastructure in its production to create process transparency from injection moulding to electroplating and to analyze and reduce waste across the board.

This should significantly reduce the consumption of valuable raw materials. The use of Detact is intended to save polycarbonate and ABS materials as well as copper, nickel, chrome andCO2. The goal is an annual cost reduction of around 140,000 euros.

Gerhardi will use the software in the production of 2-component parts with translucent areas. Detact will take over the tasks of a central AI infrastructure and monitor, analyse and visualize the highly complex, multi-stage injection moulding and electroplating processes fully automatically. This will make the entire manufacturing process transparent and employees will be able to trace each individual manufacturing step for each component with pinpoint accuracy. For this task, Detact was equipped with innovative analysis methods for electroplating, which detect all interactions that have an influence on the quality of the components and visualize them for the user.

Detact uses this objective data to virtually recreate the real process in real time and provides users with relevant information. Employees receive real process transparency and valuable knowledge to sustainably reduce the proportion of NOK parts despite the increasing use of recyclate. In this particular application, even with a recyclate content of 30%, there will be hardly any streaks, spots, pores or other quality losses in future, which would be virtually impossible to avoid without the use of AI.

On this basis, Detact ensures consistently high quality that meets all the specifications of automotive manufacturers. In addition, the scrap that inevitably arises during injection molding can be easily processed and reused as regrind or reclaim, for example.
