New cleanroom version of the IRB 1100
Robot-assisted automation in cleanrooms
ABB is expanding its robot offering for cleanroom manufacturing environments that require a high degree of flexibility and performance. The new ISO 14644-1 certified cleanroom version of the IRB 1100 combines fast performance in a compact design for industries such as healthcare, pharmaceuticals, electronics, semiconductor and solar panel manufacturing.
Key features include the hygienic color and a sealed housing to prevent contaminants such as grease, oil and particles from escaping. Thanks to very small gaps between the robot axes, bacteria have a hard time settling and growing.
The cleanroom version of the IRB 1100 is available in two versions, one with a payload capacity of four kilograms and a reach of 475 millimeters and one with a payload capacity of four kilograms and a reach of 580 millimeters, building on the success of the proven IRB 1100, ABB's most compact and lightweight six-axis robot. The IRB 1100 offers up to 35 percent shorter cycle times than the IRB 120, maximizing productivity with the best repeatability in its class. The IRB 1100 is powered by ABB's OmniCore controller and features advanced motion control, making it ideal for high-speed applications such as assembly, pick and place or material handling.
Compared to the IRB 120, the IRB 1100 not only requires ten percent less floor space, it is also 20 percent lighter. This means it can be easily installed in areas where space is limited. This also allows for greater flexibility in existing production lines. The IRB 1100 will expand ABB's offering for cleanroom applications, which also includes the IRB 120. The IRB 1100 is certified to the higher ISO Class 4, compared to ISO 5 for the IRB 120, opening up opportunities for use in potential new applications that require a higher level of protection. pb
