Sense of touch for lightweight robots

Optoforce presents new application software for Kuka lightweight robots. According to the manufacturer, the Hungarian company's touch sensors with three pre-programmed applications open up new automation options for both integrators and end users of Kuka robots, while also reducing integration times.

With the help of the applications, the robots should be easier to operate.

Tutorial videos explain how the applications work. With the "manual guidance" application, the robots should be able to move effortlessly and smoothly in a predefined direction or along a selected path, while position detection should allow the industrial robot to recognize the presence of a specific object and find the workpiece even if its position has been changed.

Thanks to an enhanced sense of touch, the robot arm is also able to detect the center of an object. According to the manufacturer, this solution also works with shiny metal objects where an image processing system has difficulty determining the exact position. The application is intended to help the robot with coordination in a wide range of applications, including palletizing. sw
