Baumüller in Hanover

Smart automation, smart service

Baumüller will be showcasing the benefits of simulations, wizard-guided commissioning, predictive maintenance and intelligent process monitoring at the Hannover Messe. In addition to systems and components, the company will also be presenting its range of services.

At the trade fair stand, Baumüller will be demonstrating live how individual production processes can be networked and thus optimized with the right interfaces. Using the example of an interlinked system, the specialist for automation and innovative electric drive technology will show how machines can be linked in such a way that several steps are carried out in one process. The automation specialist equips complete machine modules, from the motor to the software, which can then be linked with each other via suitable interfaces or integrated into existing systems.

The modular structure is also continued in the software. Here, users can purchase individual pre-programmed function blocks or complete block libraries containing validated blocks, thereby shortening development times and increasing software quality. The commissioning wizard, which guides the user through the individual steps of commissioning, is particularly user-friendly in the software area.

Optimized time-to-market with the digital twin

Machine builders and users can shorten development times and optimize existing systems with Baumüller's simulation services and component models. A digital twin allows the performance of the machine to be predicted as early as the design process. This means that the machine's behavior during operation can be tested before commissioning and errors can be detected and eliminated at an early stage. The machine manufacturer also receives all the necessary project data for the drivetrain at an early stage of the development process and can design the machine accordingly. This eliminates the need for pre-commissioning at the machine manufacturer and the machines can be set up directly at the customer's premises. The new virtual models are not only suitable for designing drive systems, but also for optimizing existing systems. Potential improvements can be identified and tested in the simulation.

Baumüller will be presenting further innovations in the Smart Services area. With Baudis IoT, the automation specialist is presenting an intelligent solution for optimizing processes and continuously monitoring components and machine statuses. Baudis IoT collects and analyzes data, which is then recorded, archived and evaluated on site at the operator's premises or via a cloud at the company headquarters or at an external service provider. This data is analyzed with the help of algorithms that are constantly evolving and thus becoming more and more intelligent in order to provide the machine operator with helpful recommendations for process optimization or maintenance activities. Baudis IoT is manufacturer-independent and can be retrofitted at any time. It uses big data to improve processes and prevent long downtimes and unexpected service cases.

Secure remote maintenance

The most important basis for smart services is the communication of data. With Ubiquity, Baumüller offers a solution for secure remote maintenance. The software solution, which is certified in accordance with IEC 62443-3-3, implements the highest security standards. There is no need to use separate hardware because the runtime environment is already pre-installed on the Windows-based Baumüller operating panels, so only a one-off purchase of the customer domain is required.

In addition to the necessary software solutions, Baumüller offers consulting and services in the areas of remote maintenance, diagnostics and networked production and, with its subsidiaries Baumüller Reparaturwerk and Baumüller Anlagen-Systemtechnik, has experience in servicing, monitoring and optimizing motors.

In the components area, Baumüller will be presenting visitors to the trade fair this year with innovations from the areas of controllers, converters and motors. Baumüller will be focusing on decentralized drive technology for mobile and classic industrial applications. as
