Siemens provides cloud PLM as a service

Siemens Digital Industries Software has announced the Teamcenter X software: a new PLM (Product Lifecycle Management) solution provided as a service.

Designed with product innovation in mind, Teamcenter is a highly scalable and industry-proven PLM product that connects people and processes across functional disciplines. Users have the ability to choose from pre-configured engineering and business solutions that add immediate value, and can add more functionality as business needs grow. Teamcenter X uses "a new and modern cloud platform with integrated best practices and a business model in which Siemens has removed the burden of operational PLM for companies of all sizes," said Peter Bilello, president and CEO of CIMdata.

With this latest addition to Siemens' Xcelerator portfolio in the SaaS (Software as a Service) space, Teamcenter X helps customers quickly realize PLM benefits and streamline product development. Organizations easily connect PLM with familiar applications to enable secure, agile, enterprise-wide and cross-functional collaboration. With the integration of software tools such as NX software and Solid Edge software for mechanical computer-aided design (CAD), Mentor software for electronic CAD and Polarion X software for application lifecycle management (ALM), Teamcenter X creates a multi-domain bill of materials (BOM) to visualize the complete digital twin - including mechanical, electrical and software components.

The interface with elements of predictive artificial intelligence helps users to find their way around and work more intelligently. Preconfigured solutions, such as engineering change, release management and more, help users to work even more effectively. Building on the Mendix software application platform, the knowledge contained in Teamcenter X can be integrated and expanded throughout the company.

Siemens also announced Teamcenter Share, a new cloud-based, design-centric service for project collaboration. It is aimed at companies that want to move from local and networked hard disks or generic cloud storage solutions to a collaboration tool with a specific focus on engineering. Share enables people involved in product development to synchronize desktop files with secure cloud storage. There, they can view and mark up all common CAD formats from any device. Project work can also be easily shared with other stakeholders to facilitate collaboration on product development projects. Teamcenter Share also provides advanced augmented reality (AR) capabilities that can be easily accessed from a tablet or smartphone to help users better understand how designs will work in the intended environment. as
