Kontron acquires industrial mainboard business from Fujitsu
Kontron S&T AG is taking over Fujitsu's industrial mainboard business based in Augsburg as part of an asset deal with Fujitsu Technology Solutions.
The Fujitsu Group had announced the closure of the Augsburg site by the end of September 2020. The transaction is subject to antitrust approvals. Kontron is a subsidiary of S&T AG.
For Kontron, the acquisition of Fujitsu Technology Solutions' embedded motherboard business is a strategic step to complement its products with its own IoT software technology. The transfer of the operational business from Fujitsu Technology Solutions to Kontron is planned for October 2019. Kontron will also offer employment opportunities to suitable Fujitsu Technology Solutions employees with relevant qualifications in the areas of research, development, production and sales.
Carlos Queiroz, COO of S&T AG, says: "Fujitsu's first-class motherboard portfolio is ideally complemented by our IoT software and services for IoT, Industry 4.0 and artificial intelligence. In addition, Kontron knows the requirements of existing customers and is sending a clear signal as a future-oriented employer in Bavaria with this acquisition."
Rupert Lehner, Head of Fujitsu Central Europe and EMEIA Products: "With Kontron, a recognized provider of embedded computing is taking over our motherboard business. We are pleased that our customers will benefit from the continuation of our high-quality portfolio with this step. For them, the decision means continuity and planning security, and it will also help to preserve jobs in Augsburg."
