Industrial communication
Time is TSN
Industrial communication. Phoenix Contact helps customers to set up networked company processes. The acceptance of the offered CC-Link IE-compatible network devices by the CLPA and the recognition of the potential of innovations such as Time Sensitive Networking are two essential aspects.
Phoenix Contact is concerned with the communication and connectivity requirements of Industry 4.0, and above all this means openness and interconnectivity. This is why the company relies on the widely used open Industrial Ethernet technology CC-Link IE.
Jan Aulenberg, Product Manager - Industrial Network Technology at Phoenix Contact, explains: "The biggest advantage of CC-Link IE is that it is based on the globally accepted standard of Industrial Ethernet technology. This means that this solution can be used universally. The CLPA also provides detailed information about CC-Link IE networks and certified products on its website." Phoenix Contact takes advantage of this offer and not only develops CC-Link IE-compatible components, but also subjects them to the CLPA (CC-Link Partner Association) conformity test.
Network switches are needed to connect automation components. This is why Phoenix Contact attaches great importance to the CLPA conformity of its CC-Link IE network switches, especially the recently certified FL Switch 2000 managed switch family. These are intelligent devices for maximizing the flexibility, utilization and stability of industrial automation networks.
The company also considers TSN to be one of the key technologies that needs to be integrated into products in terms of future developments and technical innovation. Aulenberg states: "TSN is so important because - together with the other major innovations in digital communication, such as 5G or two-wire Ethernet - it will have a significant influence on what the automation systems of the future will look like. It will make it possible to implement systems that are far superior to those of today."
TSN is intended to make standard Ethernet real-time capable. The main advantages of TSN are the possibility of time synchronization and the prioritization of time-critical data traffic. These two elements form the basis of CLPA's latest open Industrial Ethernet technology: CC-Link IE TSN. The TSN standards IEEE 802.1 for time synchronization and scheduled traffic are implemented here to provide the user with an important tool for smart manufacturing.
