IEDC: Processing IoT data in real time
Rittal has entered into a global, strategic partnership with Atos and Siemens. The aim is to develop intelligent edge data center solutions for smart industries, smart cities, smart retail, energy and utility companies and the public sector.
The new Intelligent Edge Data Center (IEDC) is a highly configurable data center solution that enables companies to process IoT data in real time. The components of the solution include Mindsphere, the cloud-based, open IoT operating system from Siemens, the new Bullsequana Edge Computing servers and Bullsequana S servers as well as Codex Cloud Industrial Supervision (CIS) from Atos. The data processing and analysis solution enables companies to optimize their entire value creation processes.
The OT (Operational Technology) infrastructure was developed by Rittal and designed as an edge data center. The advantage: operation can be provided directly at the point of origin of the data. This allows IoT data to be processed in real time, enabling faster analysis of data streams and improved automation processes. On the IT infrastructure side, Atos and Siemens provide software solutions for IoT applications and edge solutions that support the collection, calculation and analysis of data.
Solution for edge computing
The IEDC is available in various performance classes, from a wall-mounted device or IT rack to a powerful and scalable data center container. It is suitable for companies that have taken the step towards digitalization and therefore want to process large volumes of real-time data, for example in the smart manufacturing environment (Industry 4.0). Other application examples can be found in sectors ranging from digitized retail (smart retail) to digitized healthcare (smart healthcare), but also smart cities or the expansion of the 5G mobile network. In the latter case, for example, an IEDC can perform data processing directly on the mobile phone mast.
The IEDC will be available worldwide from Q3 2019, with a particular focus on the EMEA and US economic areas in the first few months. Atos will market this solution as a general contractor as part of its Digital Factory and Smart Infrastructure areas of expertise. as
