High efficiency in bin picking

Robot-guided "bin picking" increases the degree of automation and flexibility of industrial production. A major German automotive supplier has therefore opted for the Powerpick3D bin picking system from Isra Vision.

The new quad-camera sensor solution with high scanning and data processing speeds enables significantly higher throughput and faster cycle times than comparable solutions or other technologies. At the same time, part detection is robust.

The powerful sensors scan the container contents with several cameras and generate a dense point cloud. In comparison with the CAD template, the systems detect the components to be gripped and automatically create the optimum gripping sequence. The variety of recognizable object geometries is therefore virtually unlimited. Intelligent gripping planning and the precise feeding of components into the production process ensure reliable processes. Embedded PCs enable fast data processing.

One of the world's largest automotive suppliers relies on Powerpick3D to sort components for the chassis. In the production process, small, round, cylindrical metal pins are to be separated by a robot system. The mechanical solution previously used was subject to high wear and tear and had too low a throughput. The output was increased with the Isra system and the sensor was able to meet the cycle time in a short cycle time despite the reflective surfaces.

With its quad-camera equipment, the optical sensor ensures complete detection of the container, even with large container volumes. For this multi-stereo process, four integrated cameras capture the components to be gripped in the container. Automatically creates
Powerpick3D automatically creates an optimized gripping sequence and calculates the corresponding robot paths. The four cameras create different perspectives based on the redundant image recordings and thus enable reliable object recognition even in the event of shadows or reflections on a component.

The simple integration and easy teach-in of new parts thanks to CAD teach-in allow fast commissioning and quick switching between different component types. With its embedded processor technology, the sensor does not require an external computer. In combination with powerful LED lighting, fast scanning times are ensured. Isra's products are compatible with all common robot types and standard communication interfaces. The latest generation of Powerpick3D features the OPC/UA communication protocol.
