Ethernet switch with high port density
Siemens is expanding its Ruggedcom portfolio with an Ethernet switch suitable for 19-inch racks.
The Ruggedcom RST2228 has four integrated uplinks with a transmission rate of 1/10 Gbit/s (gigabit per second) and up to 24 modular interfaces with 10/100/1000 Mbit/s (megabit per second). In addition, the robust layer 2 rack switch enables precise clock synchronization by supporting the IEEE 1588 transparent clock method. The numerous ports enable users to reduce the number of network devices and thus investments.
The combination of communication functions and precise time synchronization in a network means that there are no additional maintenance costs - unlike time synchronization solutions, which require an extra network. The robust device is designed for operation in extreme temperatures from -40 to +85 degrees Celsius and in the presence of strong electrical interference (electromagnetic compatibility/EMC). The switch can be used in harsh environments, such as in power generation, transportation and the oil and gas industry, and enables the handling of rapidly increasing data volumes.
The 24 interfaces (with 10/100/1000 Mbit/s) are based on 6 modular slots, each of which in turn supports 4 interfaces. The product can be ordered pre-configured with modules, but can also be combined with the separately orderable Ruggedcom RMM2973-4RJ45, RMM2973-4FC and RMM2972-4SFP media modules for quick on-site installation and modification. This simplifies the migration from copper to fibre optic cable networks - one of the most important challenges of digitalization. Users can save costs by purchasing only the media modules they need at the time.
