Upgrade to IE5 SynRM
Digital energy audits for greater energy efficiency
The Tarkett plant in Ronneby, Sweden, is using insights from ABB's data and service expertise to save 800 megawatt hours (MWh) of energy per year in motor-driven systems. This corresponds to around one percent of the plant's total annual energy consumption or the annual energy requirement of around 68 million smartphones. Based on the data collected during the ABB Ability Digital Powertrain Energy Appraisal, ABB identified ten motors whose efficiency could be improved from 80 to 95 percent by upgrading to IE5 SynRM technology. At current energy prices, the payback period will only be a maximum of 18 months.
The service is in line with the Swedish flooring manufacturer's strategy of using innovative technologies in its operations and acting sustainably. It became clear that motors were being maintained for years that should have been replaced long ago. In view of the positive results, Tarkett is now planning to equip more motors with ABB's digital services in order to save even more energy in Ronneby in 2023 with the help of the digital energy audit. By connecting more plants to monitoring, the company will be better able to continuously identify and prioritize energy saving potential on a larger scale, while significantly reducing CO2 emissions.
