Cloud-supported access control and fleet management
One of the largest and strongest insurance companies in the world relies on passive UHF RFID technology and device management from Kathrein Solutions in Ismaning for its own parking and fleet management.
The Group has more than 9,000 employees in Germany. A smart solution for simple access control was to be created for employees and the management of pool vehicles at its various locations. The aim was to automate the entry and exit of authorized employee and pool vehicles and to track the fleet for internal cost allocation.
In order to meet the modular and flexible requirements, the ARU3570, a Kathrein reader with integrated wide-range antenna and 2G/3G communication, was chosen. With an IP67 protection class, the reader is suitable for outdoor installation. The Kathrein IoT platform Crosstalk handles device management, monitoring and raw data processing at sensor level.
The filtered data is transferred to a backend in event format, depending on the customer's requirements. In the case of the insurance company, the backend is a cloud that receives the reader data from Crosstalk and permanently provides the current white list (list of authorized RFID transponders). This white list data is regularly pulled from each reader via the Crosstalk agent (Crosstalk runs decentrally on the reader's Linux operating system). If a transponder is successfully authorized, the reader issues the command to open the correct barrier via a digital output signal (GPIO).
Together with Kathrein Solutions, the Group was able to implement a solution with technological perfection for parking applications. The installation enables employees to drive in and out quickly and easily, as well as facilitating fleet management for the Group. The RFID system has significantly accelerated the entry of authorized vehicles into the company premises. as
