Data backup

Simple backup solution

Waxar, the specialist for operating system-independent backup solutions, is launching Waxar ImageStick, a data backup solution for PC-based control systems. The backup software, which is integrated into a USB stick, creates a copy of all data on the production-relevant data carrier of the industrial PC on this USB stick.

No other storage media are required. In addition to the operating system, the data for customer-specific adaptations is also recorded bit by bit. In the event of a system failure due to corruption, manipulation or loss of data, all data and the functionality of the system can therefore be fully restored. Backup and restore are completed in a matter of minutes. As the two processes are automated, no special IT knowledge is usually required to operate them. Waxar ImageStick is suitable for operators of automated production systems who want to minimize machine and system downtimes. Machine and system manufacturers can use the solution to safeguard the delivery status of the system and make the stick available to their customers as an additional service.

The integrity and consistency of data is the foundation of production processes controlled by industrial PCs. If data becomes unusable due to power failure, hardware errors or virus activity, for example, production downtimes are inevitable. Recovery media from operating system providers only allow the operating system to be reinstalled, but not the customer-specific functionality. Restoring this data and the operability of the control system is only possible with special IT knowledge and software tools. To do this, the system usually has to be sent to the manufacturer.

With Waxar ImageStick, these downtimes can be shortened enormously, as the system operator can restore the production-relevant data quickly and independently. After delivery of the system, the plant manufacturer or operator creates the backup on the Waxar ImageStick. To restore the data, the stick is inserted into the USB port of the IPC and the system is restarted. The restore is initiated automatically and the system shuts down automatically when the process is complete. The stick is then removed. After the restart, the system is in the delivery state with all specific adjustments and is immediately ready for operation.
