The company is a manufacturer of memory and embedded IoT solutions with its own production facilities in Germany. As part of the transaction, Ardian is acquiring a majority stake in Swissbit. Swissbit's existing management team of Silvio Muschter, Thomas Luft, Vincenzo Esposito and Matthias Poppel will reinvest as part of the transaction and continue to hold a substantial stake in the company.

Among other things, Swissbit offers NAND flash-based memory and embedded IoT solutions for niche applications in a wide range of end markets. The company manufactures high-quality storage media such as SD and microSD cards, SSD hard disks and USB memory modules for mission-critical applications. The products are manufactured in the state-of-the-art production facility in Berlin, which was put into operation in October 2019.

NAND flash memory and embedded IoT solutions are used in particular in industrial automation applications, network communication technology, security and medical technology.

Together with Ardian, Swissbit intends to continue and accelerate the internationalization of the company in North America and Asia. The management also wants to leverage the growth potential in the embedded IoT segment.

Dirk Wittneben, Managing Director and Head of Ardian Expansion in Germany, says: "Swissbit's convincing and promising business model in combination with the excellent management team with many years of industry experience and strong technological expertise were the key factors for us to invest in the company. We are very much looking forward to working in partnership with the management and to supporting Swissbit on its growth path and accompanying it into a successful future."

Silvio Muschter, CEO of Swissbit, adds: "The digitalization and networking of devices in the Internet of Things is driving demand for secure, high-quality memory products from our Memory division and the security solutions from our Embedded IoT division. The most valuable part of this is the data. At Swissbit, we see it as our central task to reliably store and protect this data. That is why we have consistently built up a new, state-of-the-art electronics production facility in Berlin in recent years, set up the Embedded IoT division and successfully developed innovative hardware-based security products. In Ardian, we have found a financially strong and globally networked partner for our further planned growth in new markets."
