Stereo matching five times as fast

With the new Ensenso SDK 2.2 release, IDS offers a solution that guarantees very fast processes and high clock rates: Stereo matching can now be supported by the Nvidia Cuda graphics card, for example, which speeds up the process by around five times.

Image quality plays an important role in 3D vision applications. Manufacturers are taking this into account with ever better industrial cameras. However, more powerful sensors usually also mean larger data volumes and potentially longer processing times. The modular Ensenso stereo cameras enable 3D vision and robot vision applications that are not only precise but also economical and fast, according to the company. In addition to two cameras with CMOS sensors and a projector for the precise capture of objects via a 3D point cloud, the manufacturer also offers a correspondingly powerful software development kit (SDK).

The processing of 3D data, for example, was previously only possible on a CPU basis. With the new version 2.2 of the SDK, stereo matching can now also be GPU-based; the function can be used specifically with Nvidia graphics processors. Depending on the parameterization, the additional computing capacity of the graphics processor speeds up the processing by a factor of five.

IDS is also introducing the Nxprofiler - this graphically displays the various Nxlib actions, for example, and makes it possible to evaluate and optimize processes. Users can now also create so-called file cameras with Nxlib. This means that they can create virtual Ensenso cameras based on previously saved Nxlib images and use them to (further) process data offline.

The functions of the SDK software development kit can be used with all 3D cameras in the Ensenso series. The Ensenso SDK 2.2 is now available for download. as
