Counterfeit protection
Product piracy: microprinting against counterfeits
Product piracy causes tens of billions of euros in damage to German industry every year. This makes anti-counterfeiting solutions all the more important: Schreiner ProTech's Color Laser Film (CLF) can be provided with a microprint. This is barely visible to the naked eye and difficult to counterfeit.
"One in ten companies in Germany has fallen victim to product and brand piracy at least once in the past five years," says Oliver Koppel from the German Economic Institute. In addition to the direct loss of turnover for the companies affected, the damage is also reflected in the fact that significantly fewer jobs are created due to the drop in turnover. The German Economic Institute speaks of a loss of around 500,000 jobs.
Type plate with additional benefits
Product authentication offers protection against counterfeiting. However, solutions for product protection are often associated with additional costs and entail the risk that the anti-counterfeiting feature itself will be counterfeited. Schreiner ProTech has developed a solution that applies an individual microprint on site at the customer's premises during the laser marking of a type plate. This is so small that it is barely visible to the naked eye and can only be deciphered under a microscope. The advantage for customers who already use a CLF nameplate: There are no additional costs, as the required system - foil and laser device - is already in place.
The microprint can be made so small because the laser-sensitive layer of the film is extremely thin, namely less than 1 μ. For comparison: conventional laser foils have a layer thickness of 50 μ. This minimal coating thickness allows the highest possible resolution and therefore microscopically fine writing. A microscope with 40x magnification is required for reading.
Counterfeiting is not worthwhile
The existence of the security feature is not readily apparent to the layman. As a result, what cannot be seen will not be counterfeited. Even if the microprint is discovered, it can hardly be copied by counterfeiters because they do not have the individual components of the re-marking system. This consists of the color laser foil, which is not freely accessible. The necessary Nd:YAG laser device (neodymium-doped yttrium-aluminum-garnet laser) is also difficult for counterfeiters to obtain. as
