Amberger Kaolinwerke has already used Microsyst displays on several occasions in its extensive operating facilities. "Although the conditions here in the open-cast mine are very harsh and desert-like for electronic equipment - extreme weather and environmental conditions with high temperature fluctuations and a high level of contamination - the first displays installed are still running smoothly after 25 years," explains Jürgen Heinz from the electrical engineering department at Amberger Kaolinwerke. In addition to normal LED displays, a distribution display and an LED traffic light system with a day/night function in the truck loading area ensure that the wagons and loading area are kept in precise order.

Weight display for conveyor belt and truck
The latest installation of bright LED outdoor displays was carried out on the weighing units of the conveyor belts and truck weighing stations. The requirements were clear: perfect readability from a distance of up to 30 meters and "desert-proof" - all suitable for outdoor use and 24/7 operation.

Microsyst customized numerical LED displays from the Migan series for this purpose. In the selected configuration, one display now visualizes the quantity of kaolin sand on the conveyor belt, while another display shows the weight of the truck being loaded with the sand. The illuminated red color in combination with a line height of 100 millimeters ensures a maximum reading distance of 40 meters. Reflections caused by whirled up kaolin particles, heat streaks or autumn fog are not an issue thanks to the bright, high-contrast diodes.

Direct signal transmission with integrated AD converter
A built-in AD converter ensures that the data from the scales for the delivery rate and truck weight can be transmitted directly to the display, where it can be processed and visualized. In accordance with outdoor use, the built-in displays are adequately protected against the ingress of water and dust in accordance with IP-65. Thanks to the fanless technology, Microsyst's LED displays are also designed to be maintenance-free - a real advantage in 24/7 use at Amberger Kaolinwerke.
