Labeling systems
Candles labeled all around
Flexible labeling solution. Packaging specialist Linhardt relies on special film labels and a labeling system from Herma to label an oil core system. The adhesive, labels and print image are resistant to chemicals and the overall system can easily handle different container sizes.
It spreads the light of a candle, but is not a candle: The "Kerzolin" lighting system developed by Towe for the hotel and catering sector consists of a candle-shaped aluminum container filled with highly refined white oil and fitted with a special wick - compared to conventional candles, it offers a longer burning time as well as greater safety and convenience. The aluminum containers, which are also decoratively wrapped, are manufactured by packaging specialist Linhardt from Viechtach.
In order to achieve greater flexibility in the production of country-specific small batches, the aim was to switch the marking of the Kerzolin sleeves from direct printing to labels. "We were looking for a partner who could flexibly print and supply very different batch sizes, but who was also experienced in the development of special pressure-sensitive adhesives," says Jürgen Wenning, Head of Technical Parts Production at Linhardt.
This is because the Kerzolin containers are first labeled, then assembled with the wick system and then filled. If, in absolutely exceptional cases, the outside of the container is wetted with a small amount of oil during filling, it is important that the adhesive, label and printed image are resistant to chemicals. Herma labels, which are characterized by their chemical resistance, are therefore used. This film is combined with a Herma pressure-sensitive adhesive, which is particularly suitable for critical surfaces due to its adhesive properties - it is used to label smaller plastic containers, metal containers and chemical drums. At Herma, the labels are printed digitally in different batch sizes and checked using a camera system.
A solution from the manufacturer is also used to apply the labels: a type 152C wrap-around labeling machine. Five container sizes have to be taken into account - the spectrum of labels ranges from 55 by 180 millimetres to 100 by 133 millimetres. These are wrap-around labels with a three to four millimeter wide gap. This is due to the production process - the labels are not applied overlapping. The use of a roller prism means that there is no spiral offset, which results in perfect labeling. "Especially with demanding tasks such as Kerzolin, it pays off if you can coordinate the adhesive material, labels and labelling system very precisely," emphasizes Jürgen Keller, Sales Manager Labels at Herma. as
