Functional safety certified for robotics
Nexcobot was officially awarded the certificate for functional safety in accordance with IEC 61508 and ISO 13849-1 by TÜV Rheinland at the Hannover Messe.
Nexcobot presented a complete range of robot control products at the show, including the first collaborative solution for x86 safety robots. The solution combines the SCB100 robot safety platform, Intel's Safety Island safety features, Synapticon's intelligent servo drives and safe motion modules, and Fraunhofer IWU's Dynasafe dynamic 3D vision-assisted monitoring system. On April 23, the company received the TÜV certificate for the SCB100 controller in a festive ceremony.
Since 2020, Nexcobot has undergone product certification for functional safety at TÜV Rheinland as an independent testing and certification organization. Throughout the development process, from design planning and specification formulation to development and final product testing, TÜV Rheinland's certification experts have reviewed each stage to ensure compliance with the particularly high standards of functional safety requirements. Jenny Shern, General Manager at Nexcobot, explains: "This development represents an important milestone for us in the certification of our progress for functional safety. The SCB100 controller, which has been certified by TÜV Rheinland, stands out as the industry's pioneering safety control platform as it utilizes a single Intel x86 processor with built-in safety. This represents a departure from the current trend in safety controllers, which are primarily based on MCU or ARM chips. The multi-core capability of the Intel Atom x6427FE processor and hypervisor technology for safety allows the SCB100 to run multi-tasking applications and combine the actual unsafe motion control with safety applications."

Thomas Steffens, Head of the Certification Body for Functional Safety and Cybersecurity at TÜV Rheinland, explains: "Following a positive and detailed assessment and evaluation of the SCB100 safety controller by TÜV Rheinland in accordance with the relevant functional safety standards, we are pleased to be able to issue this certificate to Nexcobot. The SCB100 product fulfills SIL 2 according to the EN 61508 standard and PL d / Cat. 3 according to EN ISO 13849-1. This allows TÜV Rheinland to officially confirm that the product can be integrated into safety-relevant, programmable electronic systems up to these safety levels."
