Together, but safe

Annina:
I've read that, according to Universal Robots, there are only a few thousand true collaborative robots working side-by-side with humans in the production environment so far. I'm curious to see whether this will be completely normal in a few years' time. Would you want to work so closely with a robot?

Andreas:
I don't know, they're quite taciturn. That could be quite boring.

Annina:
Well, I meant from a safety point of view. After all, the employee is directly in the machine's sphere of influence. After all, it is a machine, and they are not sensitive by nature.

Andreas:
I wouldn't worry too much about that. The manufacturers invest a lot of development work in the safe handling of cobots. There are force and torque sensors in every joint that detect any blockages or unusual forces in no time at all. They even have a redundant design. So that the robots can react in real time, they also have a lot of computing power on board just to ensure safety. Then there are camera systems or sensory skin.

Annina:
Sure, and there are also the relevant health and safety regulations and standards. Anyone using a robot like this wants to assume that they can do so safely. As long as no large masses are being moved, you should be able to feel safe.

Andreas:
We can only hope that robots will adapt to humans in their day-to-day work and not the other way around. That would be like the days of the assembly line.

Annina:
Well, I strongly assume so. After all, robots are supposed to support people, help them and not make their lives difficult. I'm sure we'll see some new developments at Motek. I've always wanted to shake hands with a robot.

Andreas:
Yes, it will definitely be very interesting. Nevertheless... it would be nice if you could have a chat with your robot colleague. I'm curious to see when that will happen.
