Cooperation between humans and robots
Scara protective cover for human-robot interface
Together with Scaraflex,Epson and its Austrian partner company Economa Engineering are developing an air-filled, soft plastic protective cover that enables a human-robot interface without a protective fence thanks to built-in collision detection.
The device also monitors the robot's movement speed and ensures that the machine does not exceed a predefined maximum speed. This allows humans to work physically close together with robots without safety barriers and other external protective measures. Scaraflex is available with the Epson Scaras LS6-600, LS6-700 and T6. Retrofitting of existing systems is also possible.
The protective system encases axes 3 and 4 of the Scaras and offers a reach of up to 700 mm. With it, speeds of up to 600 mm/s are possible compared to the otherwise permissible 250 mm/s for conventional cooperative solutions.
