A small robot from Kuka's KR Agilus series is a key component of Swisslog's new Item-PiQ generation. The provider of automation solutions for warehouses and distribution centers is part of the Kuka Group and has presented the fully automated picking solution.

The image recognition software analyzes each image and saves the resulting data. This data is used to optimize gripping points so that the gripper can continuously learn and adapt to new challenges.

The latest robot technologies, combined with an intelligent vision system and machine learning functions, promise greater speed, intelligence and accuracy in article picking. The KR Agilus is combined with the Swisslog gripper system in the fully automated picking solution and achieves 1,000 picks per hour. The six-axis small robot can be operated even without in-depth knowledge of robotics and works with maximum accuracy even in the tightest of spaces. Its arm has a reach of up to 1,100 millimetres to remove items from containers. The vision system, which consists of a 3D camera and intelligent image recognition software, quickly identifies the optimum gripping points for each item and sends the relevant information to the robot's multifunctional gripper. The KR Agilus is supported in this task by Swisslog's SynQ software, which uses machine learning to continuously improve picking accuracy and gripper performance. The image recognition software analyzes every image and saves the resulting data. This data is used to optimize gripping points so that the gripper can continuously learn and adapt to new challenges. This information can be shared with customers so that they can benefit from site- or company-wide data sharing and ensure long-term process stability. pb
