It is impossible to imagine industry without robots. They take on both dangerous and monotonous tasks and thus ensure the profitability of large players as well as family businesses. Low-cost solutions in particular are increasingly proving to be the method of choice for small and medium-sized companies. The robots can easily take on simple tasks that do not require high precision and work 24/7. Employees can therefore be deployed for more meaningful tasks and the company can defy the competition. The Roibot Award from Igus picks up on the trend towards low-cost robotics in SMEs. It honors the cleverest applications of low-cost robot technology.

Exciting applications with fast ROI wanted
This year's competition is looking for existing low-cost robotics applications worldwide that have led to a fast return on investment (ROI). Robolink articulated arm robots, Drylin Delta robots and Cartesian robots - so-called gantries - from Igus can be used.

An expert jury consisting of researchers, the trade press and manufacturers evaluate the concepts. Courage, sophistication and the idea of optimization lead to a high rating. The winner will receive prize money of 5,000 euros, second place will be awarded 2,500 euros and third place 1,000 euros. The closing date for entries is March 15, 2020 and the award ceremony will be held by Igus at Automatica 2020 in Munich. The winners will receive a personal invitation including an overnight stay.
