Surface treatment is one of the most important quality indicators in mold and tool making. To date, it has mainly been carried out manually. Potentially inadequate ergonomics and fluctuating processing results depending on the operator and the state of the day are two problem aspects here. Where surface processing is already automated, it is often not possible to react quickly to process changes, such as new molds.

With the help of the Robomill principle, Boll Automation now makes it possible to automate tool molds efficiently and flexibly, even in very small batch sizes (down to batch size 1). Robomill utilizes the strengths of both worlds: The process know-how, cognitive skills and flexibility of humans are optimally combined with the strengths of a modern, sensitive HRC robot. Robomill enables the automation of a polishing and machining process without CAD data; programming is implemented by teaching-by-demonstration with an HRC robot. The subsequent machining process, which can take up to several hours depending on the component geometry, is carried out by Robomill.

Anyone can operate the flexible robot system for the precision machining of molds and tools; programming knowledge is not required. It also offers ergonomic advantages. pb
