Andrea Gillhuber,

Optimized machining process thanks to intelligent sensor network

Sauter relies on intelligent tool turrets, tool holders and tools that record, collect and evaluate data and forward it to an IQ box. This reports when defined limit values are exceeded and forwards relevant information to local servers or a cloud.

The intelligent sensor network enables the company to optimize machining processes. The data is intended to provide conclusions about the quality of the machining processes. For example, unwanted vibrations can be avoided, which can lead to poor surface quality of the workpiece, increased wear or even machine damage.

Machine learning applications should also be possible in the future: If the cutting edge becomes blunt, the cutting speed is automatically adjusted. Predictive maintenance is another possible application scenario for the box.
