The acquisition of the long-standing German sales partner enables Okuma to strategically expand its comprehensive support and service offering and consolidate its position in Europe's largest market for machine tools.

The purchase agreement was signed on July 5. Subject to antitrust approval, Hommel CNC Technik GmbH (HCT) will become a wholly-owned subsidiary of Okuma Europe GmbH with effect from September 1. The current HCT headquarters in Cologne will serve as the headquarters for the restructured sales and service activities in Germany.

"The acquisition will help us to meet the needs of our customers in Germany even better than before. By standardizing our sales and service processes, we offer them direct access to Okuma, our technologies and our know-how," says Takeshi Yamamoto, CEO of Okuma Europe. "Germany is the largest market for machine tools in Europe. By expanding our sales and service network, we can offer excellent pre- and after-sales support."

As part of Hommel GmbH, Hommel CNC Technik was the exclusive sales partner for Okuma machines in Germany for more than 40 years. During this time, the company has sold and serviced more than 7,500 of the manufacturer's machine tools locally. The entire HCT workforce of over 100 employees will be taken over by Okuma Europe GmbH following the acquisition.
