Central warehouse and TechnologyCenter
Foundation stone laid for tool logistics
The Hoffmann Group has symbolically laid the foundation stone for the LogisticCity construction project in Nuremberg. Guests of honor Markus Söder and Ulrich Maly attended the ceremony alongside the Management Board and shareholders. Construction work on the global central warehouse and TechnologyCenter has been underway since October 2018, with the opening planned for 2021.
LogisticCity, the Hoffmann Group's new global central warehouse and a new TechnologyCenter, is currently being built at Poststrasse 15 in Nuremberg-Langwasser with an investment of over 200 million euros. The client is Hoffmann SE from Munich, which is building the new tool logistics facility on a 21.5-hectare site. Construction work for LogisticCity began in October 2018 and will continue for another year. The symbolic laying of the foundation stone took place on July 24. The ceremony was attended by the Management Board and the shareholders of Hoffmann SE, Nicola Bleicher and Verena Heinrich, as well as the Bavarian Minister President Dr. Markus Söder and Dr. Ulrich Maly, Lord Mayor of the City of Nuremberg, as guests of honor. They wished LogisticCity and the Nuremberg region steady growth and prosperity.
Minister President Dr. Markus Söder: "LogisticCity is taking Nuremberg forward. This is a huge investment by the Hoffmann Group and a strong commitment to Middle Franconia as a business location. With quality and openness to the world, our medium-sized companies are the foundation of the Bavarian economy." "It is a great sign that Hoffmann has chosen Nuremberg as the location for LogisticCity," said Dr. Ulrich Maly, Lord Mayor of the City of Nuremberg. "Hoffmann is more than just a major employer in our region, as the company has been supporting the Martin Luther House of the City Mission for many years through the Hoffmann Group Foundation. Here, social responsibility is really written in capital letters and also lived. We are delighted to have such a committed employer in Nuremberg with whom we can plan and grow in the long term."
Martin Reichenecker, Spokesman of the Executive Board and Chief Sales & Marketing Officer at Hoffmann SE, said: "LogisticCity is more than just a large international central warehouse. With LogisticCity, we will also significantly expand the area of services related to our range of tools. With LogisticCity, we are pursuing a new concept that we expect to provide additional positive impetus." In total, the new site in Poststrasse will create capacity for around 900 jobs. Hoffmann currently has around 600 employees in Nuremberg.
Alexander Eckert, Chief Operations Officer at Hoffmann SE, added: "We have around 85,000 items in our range and the number is growing every year. LogisticCity therefore plays a key role in our further development. With this modern and highly automated logistics center, we will triple our capacity and increase it to up to 40,000 parcels per day. Nuremberg is the ideal location, as we have a fully developed, efficient infrastructure and well-trained, committed and reliable employees. The proximity to our headquarters in Munich is another plus point."
"LogisticCity is the biggest project in the hundred-year history of our company," said Nicola Bleicher, shareholder of Hoffmann SE. "Our great-grandfather Josef Hoffmann registered a commercial agency on March 11. Trading in tools is still our core business today and fast and reliable delivery to customers is relevant to our success." Her sister and co-partner Verena Heinrich explained: "Our first location outside of Munich was established in Nuremberg in 1979, and in 2009 we moved our logistics from Munich to Nuremberg. We therefore feel particularly connected to this region."
In total, Hoffmann is building around 100,000 square meters of floor space at Poststrasse 15 - the equivalent of 13 soccer pitches. Around 350 employees from the contracted construction companies are currently working on the construction site. The opening of LogisticCity is planned for 2021. Around 120 invited guests and 350 employees working on the construction site celebrated the laying of the foundation stone for LogisticCity in Nuremberg.
