Digital twins of tool holders

DIN 4000 is already established in the field of tools. Now comes the next step in the digitalization of tool management: Schunk is now making the data of its standardized precision toolholders from the Tendo hydraulic expansion toolholder, Tribos polygonal clamping technology and Sino expansion toolholder series available free of charge as digital twins in a standardized format based on DIN 4000.

In this way, the supplier of gripping systems and clamping technology ensures the consistency of data within the entire CAD/CAM process chain and creates the prerequisites for simulations, collision analyses and store floor management. Whereas users previously had to manually enter each tool holder into their tool management system, for example by adapting layers and coordinate systems, all data is now available for download on the Schunk website in a standardized form and can therefore be used immediately. They will also soon be integrated into common tool databases such as ToolsUnited and MachiningCloud.

"For this purpose, all Schunk tool holders from the Economy, Premium and Tech segments have been defined in accordance with the DIN 4000 characteristic list structure so that they can be used immediately in tool management, CAD/CAM and NC simulation systems. In addition, suppliers of tool presetters can integrate the data records into their respective systems," says Johannes Ketterer, Global Head of Business Unit Toolholding Systems & Chuck Jaws.

Digitization of the tool search

Schunk recently introduced a convenient Quickfinder for tool holders that significantly speeds up the search for the right tool holder. A few details about the interface, clamping diameter, projection length and clamping technology are all it takes for the tool to provide a clear list of all relevant tool holders from the most comprehensive range of tool holder technologies made in Germany.
