Universal crane with turning function
Safe lifting and turning of loads
Demag is introducing a new standard function for its universal crane range: With an optional package of measures, the crane installations can be equipped with a load turning function which, according to the manufacturer, achieves the highest level of safety - without the additional engineering effort previously required. This is made possible, among other things, by the monitoring of the entire load turning process by the Demag Safecontrol safety control system.
In the production process, heavy components such as press tools, machine beds or special containers have to be lifted, moved horizontally and, above all, turned. This has been possible with Demag cranes for decades - however, the turning function was associated with engineering effort. As part of the expansion of the universal crane range, Demag has standardized the "load turning" option to such an extent that it requires considerably less individual engineering work for universal cranes with two hoist units, without compromising the acknowledged high level of safety.
The package of measures that enables the "load turning" function includes increasing the dimensions of the steel structure and equipping it with additional sensors. In addition, the Demag Safecontrol control system, which controls and monitors all crane movements and functions in a safety-oriented manner, is modified for the load turning process. Depending on the requirements for the size of the rope hoists, a skew angle of up to 20 degrees can be achieved. Loads of up to 50 tons can be turned with universal cranes modified in this way.
The user can choose between two safe versions. Precise measurement of the rope angle is achieved by combining the Demag Safecontrol control system with a two-channel, non-contact sensor system. In the basic version, an audible and visual warning is given as soon as the maximum deflection angle is reached. In the safest version, the control system monitors all movements in a safety-oriented manner and automatically stops the lifting and travel movements if the maximum permissible rope angle is exceeded. This achieves a high safety category: performance level d (lifting) or c (travel) in accordance with EN 13849-1, category 3.
In both variants, the load turning function is operated wirelessly via joystick transmitters as standard, which enable intuitive control with a view of the load to be turned. Alternatively, it can also be controlled via push-button hand-held transmitters or hand-held transmitters with a mini-joystick operating concept. pb
