Gripper

Flexible without edges

For cobots to be successful, they must be versatile and easy to handle. End-of-arm tools play a key role; the tool at the end of the cobot arm is crucial, especially when it comes to handing parts to humans for processing.

The flexibility of the tool determines the range of applications. Piab has taken these requirements into account with the compact Kenos vacuum gripper from the KCS series: It is a vacuum gripper system that can pick up products of various shapes; it is designed in such a way that different grippers can be quickly exchanged using a quick-change system. The system consists of a separate pump unit, in which a modular vacuum generator is integrated, and a gripper unit. Both are connected by the tool-free quick-change system.

The entire unit can be attached to all common cobot models using an appropriate adapter. The underside of the main gripper consists of a technical foam that can adapt to different contours and pick up different parts. In many cases, this eliminates the need for precise detection of a workpiece and gripping surfaces. Accordingly, in many applications it is not necessary to change the gripper when changing the parts to be picked up. For special applications, such as handling plastic bags for concentrates or granulates, Piab has developed another gripper unit that can be quickly exchanged using the quick-change system.

Both gripper units have an edgeless design. The rounded sides and the surface made of technical foam have largely eliminated any potential risk of injury. This makes the gripper units particularly safe to use on cobots that cooperate freely with humans and therefore increases acceptance by employees. pb
