Fipa vacuum cleaners equip packaging system
Smurfit uses Varioflex suction cups from Fipa to handle its various types of packaging.
Smurfit Kappa Neuss manufactures various types of packaging from solid and corrugated cardboard, such as fruit and vegetable cartons, hybrid sales packaging, fruit crates, bulk goods packaging, trays, flower boxes and window packaging. Smurfit uses grippers with vacuum cups to handle the perforated cardboard packaging. However, the previously used bellows suction cups sporadically lost the cardboard boxes during the pick-up process and were extremely worn. The system was therefore unstable.
Fipa received the order to convert the system. Fipa used Varioflex suction cups as a solution for the reliable handling of the abrasive cardboard packaging. Bellows suction cups made of the composite material Varioflex, a special polyurethane in two different hardnesses, consist of a soft, flexible sealing lip and a stable body. The flexible sealing lip clings to the cardboard packaging and ensures high retention forces and low leakage. The stable body absorbs high lateral forces and prevents the load from slipping sideways. Thanks to low wear, Varioflex suction cups have a long service life.
Another solution component is ejector boxes with high suction power for fast evacuation. "The conversion to Varioflex bellows suction cups for suctioning the special surface of the corrugated board and the changeover of vacuum generation to ejectors was a complete success," says Dirk Keitel, Maintenance Manager at Smurfit Kappa Neuss. as
