Tool holder systems

Extension for driven tools

Tool holder systems. In future, Schunk's Tribos polygonal clamping technology, which will be on show at Intec 2019, can also be used on lathes and rotary transfer machines with driven tools.

The specialist for gripping systems and clamping technology has developed special polygonal chucks with ER taper that can be combined with commercially available holders for ER collets, in particular also with driven tool holders. The clamping system utilizes the accuracy of the ER taper and combines this with the precision of polygonal clamping technology. Instead of the less precise collet chuck, the Tribos holder is inserted into the existing tool holder and fixed in place using the ER clamping nut.

The advantage: The tools can be preset in the Tribos holders with an accuracy of 0.01 millimetres in length and, if required, can be changed into the collet chucks in just a few simple steps. In this context, Schunk points out the shorter set-up times and the higher repeat accuracy of the clamping system in terms of concentricity and overhang length compared to ER collets.

Tribos clamps even tools with small shank diameters with high precision. The one-piece clamping system is insensitive to dirt and has high radial rigidity. Tribos polygonal chucks with ER taper are available in two versions: Tribos-Mini ER is suitable for micromachining, especially when it comes to small shank diameters and particularly delicate machining operations. Tribos-RM ER, on the other hand, specializes in precise volume machining in the high speed range. Its enormous clamping forces enable high cutting performance with excellent concentricity, thereby increasing productivity. The truss-like design dampens vibrations and ensures long tool life. Both versions will be available in sizes ER 11, ER 16, ER 20, ER 25 and ER 32 for clamping diameters of one to six millimetres (Tribos-Mini) and three to twelve millimetres (Tribos-RM).

With their high concentricity and repeat accuracy and a balancing quality of G 2.5 at 25,000 revolutions per minute, Tribos tool holders meet even the highest requirements. Because the clamping system works without moving parts, it is mechanically insensitive. It guarantees virtually maintenance-free and wear-free clamping. Endurance tests show that no material fatigue occurs even after thousands of repeated clamping operations. This makes Tribos superior to other clamping technologies, such as ER collets. as
