Central dispatch warehouse

Andreas Mühlbauer,

Efficient material flow over two floors

As a supplier of engineering plastics, Ensinger develops solutions for a wide range of industries, including medical technology and biopharmaceuticals. At the Cham site, Ensinger uses the Hänel Multi-Space as a central dispatch warehouse for finished parts, which are stored after final inspection and picked for further packaging or direct dispatch to customers.

Hänel's warehouse experts developed this tailor-made intralogistics solution to further optimize internal processes and meet the growing demands of the future. Space-saving warehouse for demanding requirements.

The Hänel 3-axis storage system at Ensinger enables optimum use of the available space and provides an enormous storage volume on 116 Hänel multifunctional containers. With a footprint of just 25 square meters, the maximum payload of the three storage towers is an impressive 120 tons.

A continuous material flow over two floors

With a lift height of over 6.5 meters, the Hänel Multi-Space makes perfect use of the available space and connects two floors for an optimal logistics process. On the second floor, items from the adjoining production area undergo final inspection and are prepared for shipping, while packaging and shipping processes are carried out on the first floor.

The employees can store and pick at the two picking stations of the Hänel Multi-Space at the same time. The orders are currently processed on the Hänel MP 14 N control system, whereby all items and storage locations are recorded and acknowledged using a hand scanner. The plastic parts are securely organized in various loading aids, which are optimally designed for different sizes and shapes.

Future SAP connection and process optimizations

The flexible Hänel control systems allow seamless integration into a wide range of ERP systems ex works. A connection between the Hänel Multi-Space and Ensinger's SAP system is therefore already being planned. This will make it possible to process orders automatically. This means that the Hänel lift is controlled directly by SAP and automatically provides the relevant containers for a picking order.

At the same time, the Hänel Pick-o-Light Vario, which is already integrated into the picking stations, will support employees by clearly identifying items during order picking. These steps will further increase the efficiency and speed of work processes in Ensinger's dispatch warehouse.

The combination of vertical storage, intelligent control and ergonomic operation has made the Hänel Multi-Space an indispensable part of intralogistics at Ensinger right from the start.

This project shows how future-oriented technology can be combined with well thought-out planning to achieve maximum efficiency. The Hänel Multi-Space is not only a solution for current challenges, but also provides the basis for long-term growth through integration with SAP.

Stefan Plötz, Head of Production Engineering, says: "By using the Hänel Multi-Space, we were able to significantly reduce the storage area and optimize our internal processes at the same time. The automatic transport between the floors relieves our team, and the planned SAP connection will enable even more efficient order picking in the future."
