Schmalz at the Blechexpo
Automated handling of metal sheets
The Ivos (Industrial Vision Operating System) solution kit from Schmalz simplifies the automated handling of various metal sheets.
At Blechexpo 2023, the Black Forest-based company will explain how the vacuum specialists have managed to teach the system to recognize and grip unknown workpieces. This much can be revealed: Thanks to AI and the Ivos platform developed by Schmalz, the commissioning effort is reduced to a minimum.
The matrix gripper specially developed for this application offers flexibility when gripping different workpieces. The system can be seen not only at Schmalz's Blechexpo stand, but also at machine manufacturer Arku (Hall 1, Stand 1001). The specialist for straightening and deburring machines as well as coil lines has set up a real application that it has developed specifically for handling smaller sheet metal parts. The system can automatically detect new sheet metal parts and feed them reliably to the deburring or straightening machine.
Schmalz will also be demonstrating efficient destacking of particularly thin sheets with an industrial robot. A double sheet sensor on the SGM-HPm magnetic gripper or the use of a centering tip ensures reliable handling. In the application example, the SAXB bellows suction pad also demonstrates that it can pick up workpieces with oiled or curved surfaces at high speed.
