"Following the decline in sales in 2020, which was mainly due to the economic slump caused by the coronavirus pandemic, the recovery expected for 2021 has fully materialized. Sales expectations were not only met, but far exceeded," explains CEO and Chief Technology Officer Volker Bibelhausen.

The economic situation stabilized in 2021 compared to the previous year, resulting in a strong increase in demand for Weidmüller products and solutions.

Long-term investments

Long-term investments in all areas will continue to form the basis for the electronics company's constant growth in the future. At 56 million euros, Weidmüller invested around 6% of its turnover in research and
research and development. An important part of this investment is the construction of the new logistics center. With the new hub, which is being built on an area of 72,000 square metres not far from Eisenach, Weidmüller is revolutionizing its logistics. Completion is planned for the end of 2022. The state-of-the-art logistics center is largely automated. End-to-end digitalization and networking will make delivery and customer service more flexible and better.

Opening of the Weidmüller Academy

The Weidmüller Academy, a new building in Detmold, was completed in 2021, providing space for more than 120 trainees and dual students from the commercial and technical fields.

Workshops, a machine park, rooms for "new work", training and innovation form the core of the new building. 30 employees are responsible for
training and the networking of education, science and society. "The new Weidmüller Academy is an important building block for the future of Weidmüller. Training young people is not only our social responsibility, but also makes a decisive contribution to securing our own skilled workforce," says CFO André Sombecki.

Investments in new technologies and markets

In order to meet the current challenges of our time, such as climate change, health, food and raw material supply, a large number of innovative ideas and electrotechnical solutions are required. When developing these ideas and solutions, the topic of sustainability is of particular importance to Weidmüller: Weidmüller is one of the technology pioneers in wind power and photovoltaics, supports resource-saving production processes and uses durable materials.

Confident view of the billion

"We are assuming a return to normality. We therefore expect the situation with regard to delivery difficulties to ease further in the second half of the year," says Dr. Timo Berger, Chief Sales Officer of the Weidmüller Group. Weidmüller is optimistic about the rest of the current year. After sales grew by 20 percent last year, the Detmold-based family business expects to exceed the billion mark this year. "We are concentrating on continuing to meet the growing demand for our products and solutions quickly and reliably in the future," says Berger.
