VariaPro Rail is fit for use in rail transport

It has successfully passed the tests of the fire protection standards DIN EN 45545-2 and 45545-3 and can therefore be used without restriction in all trains on the European rail network. The new cable gland will be presented for the first time at InnoTrans in Berlin (Hall 10.1, Stand 106).

Fire protection is of paramount importance in railroad technology. All components and materials used must prevent fires from spreading for as long as possible. In the case of metal cable glands, it is the plastic inserts that are closely scrutinized by inspectors. In the event of a fire, the cable gland must be able to withstand the flames for at least 15 minutes (= fire resistance class E15). According to the company, the VariaPro Rail even withstood the flames for significantly longer.

Hummel uses EPDM sealing inserts for its cable glands for railroad technology. This means they can be used without hesitation in temperature ranges between -40⁰ and +150⁰ Celsius. The new cable gland also impresses in terms of tightness with protection class IP 68 up to 10 bar.

The slimline design of the VariaPro meets the requirements for space-saving installation. In addition, the cable gland is easy to install, with the EMC connection already integrated as standard. The housing is made of nickel-plated brass. The new cable gland is available in four sizes: M20, M25, M32 and M40. Thanks to the intelligent combination of sealing inserts and reducers, VariaPro Rail can accommodate cables with diameters from 7 to 32 millimetres.

The new VariaPro product family represents a modular concept for a whole range of cable glands for special applications. In addition to the VariaPro Rail, there are variants for use in the high-temperature and extreme low-temperature range.
