Protection against system downtime and data loss

The reliable and fail-safe DC power supply of embedded IPCs, controllers, motor drives, sensors, measurement, control and safety technology is of fundamental importance in networked and high-tech systems.

The new UPSI-2406DP1 DC UPS module with integrated lithium-ion battery from Bicker bridges power failures, voltage dips and flickers in the 24VDC power supply. By optimizing the power electronics, DC loads of up to 100 watts can be safely bridged.

The DC emergency power supply in a robust DIN rail housing is suitable for long-term continuous operation in control cabinet applications and decentralized self-sufficient solutions for Industry 4.0, automation, robotics, image processing, medical and laboratory technology, transportation, process and safety technology, traffic monitoring, energy, communication, vending, payment systems / POS, and much more.

In terms of system integration and cost-effectiveness (TCO), lithium-ion cells can be used to realize energy storage systems with space and weight savings of up to 75 percent compared to conventional lead-acid batteries. Lithium is the lightest metal in the periodic table and has ideal electrochemical properties for providing high specific energy densities (Wh/kg). The number of charging cycles (cycle life ≥500 for UPSI-2406DP1), the achievable depth of discharge (DoD) and a service life that is up to five times longer under comparable operating conditions are also many times greater than that of lead-acid batteries.

In normal operation, the system electronics of the UPSI-2406DP1 provides the nominal voltage supplied by the mains at the output, charges the Li-ion battery pack and monitors the voltage thresholds at the input. If the voltage falls below the defined voltage threshold, the system switches to UPS backup mode within fractions of a second and ensures an uninterrupted and regulated power supply at the output for the connected 24 VDC consumer. With a capacity of 2.5 Ah / 37 Wh, the internal lithium-ion battery provides enough energy to bridge a load of 96 watts for around 15 minutes or a load of 25 watts for 60 minutes.

The intelligent distribution of the charging currents (PowerSharing) ensures that the upstream AC/DC power supply does not have to be oversized, but that the input power is kept constant and distributed accordingly to the load and Li-ion battery charger. When the load at the output is low, more energy flows into the charger and vice versa.

The battery management system prevents the creeping discharge of the integrated battery pack when the UPSI-2406DP1 is switched off by deactivating the battery accordingly. By reducing the BMS internal power consumption to a minimum, this also significantly increases the safety and storage capacity of the DC UPS.

All inputs and outputs are located on the front of the UPSI-2406DP1. In addition to the connections for input and output voltage with status LED, these include a relay contact (PowerFail), an RS232 communication interface and a USB interface. The compact and high-quality aluminum housing (63 x 120 x 100 mm) is equipped with a DIN rail holder on the back for flexible and quick DIN rail mounting.
