Chilling with less refrigerant
With its new Blue e chillers in the 11 to 25 kW power class, Rittal has significantly enhanced its cooling technology for chillers for machine and enclosure cooling. With 40 percent less refrigerant, the units make an important contribution to sustainable environmental protection.
At the same time, users benefit from precise temperature control, simplified operation and installation as well as new safety functions. Preconfigured option packages that are quickly available from stock offer solutions for almost any requirement: for example, for precision control, higher pressure requirements or robust outdoor applications in cold zones.
In many industrial manufacturing processes, the recooling of liquids using so-called chillers is one of the basic requirements for smooth operation. Control cabinets and, in particular, machine tools for the precise processing of metal must have exact temperature control. Solutions are also required that are easy to operate and install and offer maximum safety. Users are also no longer prepared to accept long delivery times. Individual technical solutions must be available quickly from stock and in series production. And finally, there is an increasing focus on sustainability and environmental friendliness.
Environmentally friendly cooling
With the development of its new Blue e chillers, Rittal offers a sophisticated solution package that meets these requirements. The chillers are available in the robust industry standard (IP 44, electrics) - in addition to the Blue e+ chillers with 1.5 to 6 kW - in four power classes from 11 to 25 kW and in two enclosure sizes: 660 x 1265 x 1315 mm and 760 x 1265 x 1515 mm (WDH). Thanks to the use of micro-channel technology and the resulting very high fin efficiency of the heat exchangers (extruded aluminum profile with small channels with a diameter of around 1 mm), the appliances require 40 percent less refrigerant overall than before. As the heat exchangers are made of 100 percent aluminum, galvanic corrosion is ruled out.
Regulate as required
The fan and compressor are controlled centrally via a digital controller. The temperature of the cooling medium can be precisely controlled: The standard hysteresis is ± 2K; precision control (hot gas bypass) of ± 0.25 K is possible as an option. This prevents temperature fluctuations that lead to inaccuracies on the machined workpiece and ensures consistent quality.
The multilingual, industrial-grade touch display on the front of the chiller and intelligent communication interfaces make operation and analysis convenient. Device parameterization and the readout of data and system messages in plain text are clear and fast. Error messages are prioritized and displayed in three escalation levels (note, error, maintenance).
The Blue e Chillers are wired ready for connection and can be put into operation quickly using the plug & play principle. Crane eyes facilitate transportation, as does the forklift-compatible base. Standardized water connections, an adjustable overflow valve (bypass valve) and optimum accessibility to all components make it easier for fitters and service staff to work on the appliances.
Safety taken into account
Integrated overflow valves ensure a constant circulation of cooling water when the consumer is closed and the pump is running. This protects the cooling medium pump from overload. The valve is preset for the pump used and operation at 50 Hz. The valve setting can be adjusted for 60 Hz operation. A fill level monitor ensures maximum operational safety and increased availability. Optional flow monitors also provide an alarm if the flow rate is too low and detect hydraulic faults such as contamination and blockages in the system at an early stage.
As an additional service, Rittal offers pre-configured option packages that are quickly available from stock and offer a suitable solution for almost any requirement. For example, boosted pumps (4 and 6 bar) are available for multi-circuit systems. If necessary, the control accuracy can be improved from ± 2K to ± 0.25 K with a precision control (hot gas bypass). In addition, the Blue e chillers can be made fit for cold zones down to -20°C, as well as for laser applications, and can also be upgraded with a water-cooled condenser or heater and customized with a special paint finish.
