Predictive maintenance

Swabian "Cleverle"

Tekon Prüftechnik GmbH is presenting the Tekonect information module with extended functions at this year's Control, the international trade fair for quality assurance in Stuttgart. The "intelligent" module from the Swabian testing technology specialist is installed in test fixtures.

It detects potential faults in the testing of electronic components at an early stage. Tekonect controls test procedures using additional information, defines maintenance intervals and thus enables longer service lives for the test adapters. Users include manufacturers from a wide range of industries that produce and test electrical and electronic components.

Tekonect provides quick and detailed information on the use and status of a test adapter in use. With sufficient installation space and an external power supply between 12 and 24 V, it can be integrated into a large number of existing test adapters. The extended functions now also make the info module interesting for tests in the high-current range and in electromobility. It monitors the temperatures of the environment, the housing and the contact elements and issues an alarm in the event of excess temperatures. If required, especially when applying high currents, for example, air cooling can be actively switched on or off without the higher-level control system having to intervene.

Further monitoring information includes data on the completed mating and maintenance cycles, current flow, the kinetics of the adapter and general component information. The information output can be both wired and wireless. A new feature is an integrated LED that enables quick visualization of the status using traffic light colors: the worker can see at a glance whether everything is in order or whether action is required.

"Tekonect is basically an 'electronic tachograph' that the user can also use for predictive maintenance and process reliability in production," says Daniel De Monte, Head of Design and Pre-Development at Tekon in Kernen near Stuttgart. "This is essentially about preventing faults before they occur. Unlike conventional measuring systems, which provide data on control operations, Tekonect helps to identify in good time when contact elements need to be replaced or the test adapter needs to be repaired, for example."

For more than 30 years, Tekon has been developing technologically sophisticated contacts for reliable and sensitive testing of electrical and electronic plugs and sockets. These make an important contribution to the user's quality assurance process. Tekon offers customized solutions both for the manual testing process of small batch sizes and for fully automated testing of complex series products in large quantities.
