175th company anniversary and 40 years of the terminal block family

At the beginning of the 1980s, Weidmüller decided to take a pioneering step: the comprehensive redesign of its screw terminal block product line. With the aim of fundamentally optimizing the technical properties as well as the design and ease of use, a product was created that was far ahead of modern requirements and is still considered a benchmark today. The result of this new development is a clear structure of the functional areas as well as an ergonomically well thought-out design that makes gripping and mounting the clamps considerably easier. The ergonomic contour is precisely designed to adapt to the natural finger position, ensure optimum handling and enable efficient handling.

This design set a new standard and is still used successfully today in numerous terminal blocks with screw connection technology worldwide. The W-series quickly established itself as a reliable and widely used connection element. The billions of W-series terminal blocks sold underline their outstanding performance and worldwide popularity. As one of the best-selling terminal blocks, the WDU 2.5, for example, meets the highest requirements for durability, quality and reliability, which are now considered standard in the industry. "This success is proof of Weidmüller's longevity and innovative strength. The W-series terminal blocks represent decades of experience in connection technology and meet the stringent requirements for performance and safety that are required in global applications," explains Jörg Diekmann, Team Leader Product Modification at Weidmüller.

A growing system concept that sets market standards

In close cooperation with users, Weidmüller has developed an impressive variety of over 1,000 color and product variants over decades. Today, this comprehensive product family is one of the most powerful and extensive on the market. The screw terminal blocks impress with a consistent system concept that both simplifies installations and offers a high degree of flexibility. A special feature is the standardized design of the feed-through terminal blocks for rated cross-sections from 2.5 mm² to 10 mm², which reflects the system concept of the product line.

Supplemented by an extensive, standardized range of accessories, the product family is versatile and suitable for numerous industrial applications. "Even after more than 40 years of continuous development, we are not resting on our laurels," says Karlo Stjepanovic, Head of Development Terminals at Weidmüller. The latest innovations include the introduction of a marshalling product group specially developed for the process industry, which underlines Weidmüller's claim to innovation.
