RoHS directives

Andreas Mühlbauer,

Application and limit values

What are the RoHS directives and what is their aim? Behind this are the EU directives 2011/65/EU and 2002/95/EC, which are referred to as the "Restriction of Hazardous Substances", or RoHS for short.

The aim of these directives is to restrict the use of hazardous substances in production technology. The aim is to prevent hazardous substances from being released into the environment by electrical and electronic equipment.

The RoHS directives make ecological sense, as the majority of electrical and electronic appliances are disposed of after a few years. The substances they contain are anything but harmless. Environmentally harmful substances can be released during disposal and thus enter the food chain. In his magazine article, Reichelt shows which industries the RoHS directives are particularly important for and which specific limit values apply to the restricted substances.
