More power for e-mobility
ZF strengthens electromobility
ZF Friedrichshafen is strengthening its E-Mobility Division with new buildings and locations. The technology group has now opened a building for administration, development and sales at the division's headquarters in Schweinfurt.
"The demand for electric drive solutions has increased enormously," says Michael Hankel, Member of the Executive Board and responsible for electromobility and production, among other things. "We have therefore invested massively in this division in order to create attractive jobs and expand production capacities. With electromobility, we at ZF are building a bridge to the mobility of the next generation and are helping to make transportation more environmentally friendly." Alongside Vehicle Motion Control, autonomous driving and integrated safety, electromobility is one of the four technology fields of ZF's "Next Generation Mobility" strategy.
The company has created space for around 520 employees in the new building at the Schweinfurt site. Their workstations were designed according to the so-called Office Concept 3.0, which enables project-based and flexible working. "This modern office concept offers the right working environment for every purpose. It reflects the transformation of our working world, which is characterized by agility and digitalization. We want to offer our top employees a good working environment," says Jörg Grotendorst, Head of the E-Mobility division. The building, in which ZF has invested a total of around 30 million euros, also houses 16 test benches and testing facilities for testing electric and hybrid drives and associated components.
With a total of more than 9,400 employees, Schweinfurt is one of the largest ZF locations worldwide. This makes the technology group the largest employer in Lower Franconia. In addition to the E-Mobility Division, which was founded in 2016, the ZF Aftermarket Division is also managed from Schweinfurt.
Meanwhile, the Group is strengthening its E-Mobility division and its production capacities worldwide. In Pancevo, Serbia, near Belgrade, a plant for electric drives is officially opened. There, ZF produces electric motors, electric machines and generators for hybrid and electric drives as well as transmission selectors and microswitches. In order to meet the high demand for these products, this location is already being expanded. In the future, around one thousand people will be employed there. Another production site for electric drives is currently being built in Hangzhou, China, south of Shanghai. This will commence operations next year.
"We not only want to offer our customers technically convincing solutions, but also have to provide them with attractive offers in terms of price. After all, long-term success requires technology and cost leadership. We achieve this goal through the strong commitment of our employees. And we achieve it through a global production network. This gives us a balanced presence in different regions in order to be close to our customers and create competitive cost structures," says Michael Hankel.
