Construction work has been underway since fall 2020, with completion scheduled for 2022. With this investment in the double-digit million range, the family-owned company is setting the course for further growth and more customer service in the area of shipping.

Just ten kilometers from the Weidmüller GmbH site in Thuringia, with optimal connections to the plant itself, the freeway and short distances to the two most important German freight airports in Frankfurt and Leipzig, Weidmüller is sharpening its logistics profile. The new building is the basis for forward-looking logistics and an investment in Germany as a business location.

The new logistics center, which runs under the project title "NGL" (Next Generation Logistics), will be the global transshipment point for all products from the plants in Germany, Romania and the Czech Republic. "We are in a growth industry and supply innovative technologies and products that are crucial for the availability of machines, systems and infrastructure," explains Chief Sales Officer Dr. Timo Berger. "In order to meet the increasing dynamics of our markets, we need to further optimize all supply chains. Digitalization and networking play an important role in this. With a new logistics concept, we can implement these requirements - from our suppliers' shipping to our customers' incoming goods - in a targeted and optimal manner."

Despite the pandemic and uncertainty in 2020, postponing this construction project was not an option. "Now more than ever, we have to think about the time after the crisis and the changes that are coming and align our actions accordingly," continues Berger. As a medium-sized family business, Weidmüller is planning the company's development for the long term. "This is the only way we can remain efficient and be a reliable partner for our customers. This includes becoming even faster, more flexible and better in our delivery and customer service."

The construction is also necessary to enable further growth at the plant in Thuringia. "The upward trend that we already saw in the fourth quarter of last year is continuing, which is why the first business figures for 2021 are also extremely promising," says Berger. "We are optimistic about the coming months, hope to make rapid progress in containing the pandemic worldwide and expect our markets to develop positively over the next few years." The new logistics center is an important milestone for Weidmüller in meeting future challenges.
