Social Media Days at Ziehl-Abegg

pb,

Boldly and consciously entering the digital world

Ziehl-Abegg's headquarters in Künzelsau was transformed into a hotspot for digital innovation at the end of June 2023: 140 social media and marketing experts from 90 different German companies and authorities attended the two-day Social Media Days.

Numerous expert presentations and interactive workshops covered social media and artificial intelligence (AI). And inspired participants to integrate TikTok and other platforms into their marketing in order to increase their own brand awareness.

The dark side of the social media world

The opening event on the public day already promised exciting insights into the dark corners of the digital universe. Felix Beilharz exposed the dark side of the social media world. With a twinkle in his eye, he showed the fascinated audience how easily people fall for fake news and fraudulent online stores. He gave tips on how to expose such black sheep, from spelling mistakes to suspicious payment methods. Beilharz also emphasized the importance of media literacy and called for children to be made aware of the truth on the internet at an early age.

The Expert Day continued in a lively manner. Dr. Marc Wucherer, CEO of Ziehl-Abegg, opened the day with a clear appeal: more courage in dealing with social media platforms such as TikTok! He encouraged companies and organizations to stand out from the crowd and break new ground. Because only those who are prepared to take risks and implement innovative ideas will be successful in the fast-moving world of digital media.

Focus on the people behind the products

In addition to Beilharz, Oliver Herbert, social media expert at Daimler, also generated a lot of enthusiasm. With a wink, he described himself as a "corporate influencer" and emphasized the role of employees in corporate communications. "We have been moving people and goods for more than 130 years. The Mercedes star is a strong brand with visible products. Brands arouse emotions, but isn't there something missing?" he asked the audience rhetorically. He called for a focus on the people behind the products and to strengthen their individual brands. After all, people follow other people and not just brands or companies.

User guide for LinkedIn

While Tamara Hirmann from Ziehl-Abegg will present the possibilities of TikTok as a helpful tool for employer branding in the business-to-business (B2B) sector in her presentation, Prof. Dr. Markus Besenbeck will explain the advantages of LinkedIn. The Professor of Corporate Management and Marketing at the Würzburg-Schweinfurt University of Applied Sciences uses the professional network intensively. "Is LinkedIn a place for self-discovery and exploits? Or is it the biggest B2B trade fair in the world, open 24 hours a day?" he asks the audience provocatively. Prof. Besenbeck provides the audience with a user guide for LinkedIn. But maintaining your own profile also plays an important role in the job network. The LinkedIn expert calls on people not to neglect community management. "You should be honest with yourself and ask yourself how much time you can invest each week." For long-term goals, it should be an hour a day." For effective time management, it is helpful to pre-produce content and define an editorial schedule.

AI in the digital world

What will happen to consumer society if more and more chatGPT technology is used in digital media? The lecture by Prof. Dr. Seon-Su Kim during the Social Media Days will provide a small foretaste. He heads the Bad Mergentheim campus of the DHBW Mosbach. The university professor explains that new plugins for ChatGPT are now coming onto the market every week. Prof. Kim's presentation makes it clear that AI has long since begun its triumphal march in the digital world. The marketing expert sees many opportunities for the future, but he does not ignore the downsides of AI: AI models could, for example, reinforce existing biases in the data used to train them in the field of human resources. "They could therefore reproduce distorted or discriminatory views," criticizes the scientist."

Lectures and workshops

Alongside the inspiring presentations, participants were able to take part in inspiring workshops. Rebecca Amlung (Ziehl-Abegg) gave tips on how to use TikTok as an effective marketing tool. She explained how to use the platform with self-shot videos and what aspects need to be considered. In his workshop, Julian Hoß familiarized participants with hardware and software and gave very practical tips on filming 9:16. Holger M. Rößler presented how Ziehl-Abegg practices eSports and organizes its own international tournaments.

Platform for exchange and networking

The Ziehl-Abegg Social Media Days were not only a source of inspiration, but also a platform for exchange. Between the presentations, participants had the opportunity to network with each other and share their experiences in the digital world. The fact that the presentations were repeated twice made it possible to hear many topics and benefit from the concentrated expert knowledge.
