Industry-wide initiative
SMC joins Open Industry 4.0 Alliance
SMC wants to continue its journey into Industry 4.0 together with companies from different sectors. This is why the manufacturer, partner and solution provider for electrical and pneumatic automation solutions is now part of the Open Industry 4.0 Alliance.
In addition to automation experts such as SMC, market-leading software developers, measuring device manufacturers and robotics producers are also members of this industry-wide initiative. "Data and information are the lifeblood of Industry 4.0. With their help, production will become even more efficient and effective in the future," says Christian Ziegler, Manager Digital Business Development at SMC. "That's why we want to develop solutions for a digitalized industry together with the members of the alliance in the future and thus tap into great potential in terms of efficiency and productivity."
The OI4.0 Alliance is deliberately diverse. "Digitalization affects all areas of industry, from software development to mechanical engineering," says Christian Ziegler. "We are receiving more and more requests for coordinated offers. Customers don't want to get lost in an increasingly confusing market, they want a systematic, clear concept." This is why companies from different sectors work together in the OI4.0 Alliance and learn from each other.
The goal: a holistic concept for Industry 4.0 applications. Christian Ziegler: "Up to now, there has often been a lack of consistency from the ERP system to the store floor level. We want to create this with the existing technologies." Specifically, the OI4.0 Alliance is working on implementing and improving the following topics Digital commissioning with automatic onboarding, data management with end-to-end semantics, technology consistency and APIs as well as cost-effectiveness. as
