Under the name LIP-Pfeiffer Vacuum Joint Center for Vacuum Technology, LIP and Pfeiffer Vacuum founded a joint center for vacuum technology in Lanzhou, Gansu Province, on October 17, 2017. As one of the founding members of the Chinese Vacuum Society, the Lanzhou Institute of Physics is a pioneer in the field of vacuum technology in China. The LIP was also one of the first institutes in China to be involved in the development of satellites and spacecraft and has therefore been a member of the China Academy of Space Technology (CAST) since 1968. The cooperation between Pfeiffer Vacuum and LIP will focus on the research and development of vacuum solutions for space applications, vacuum measurement technology, vacuum calibration and other applications.

The close cooperation between the two companies illustrates their common interests, it was said. Pfeiffer contributes to the cooperation with its portfolio of vacuum solutions, products and services as well as its global sales and service network, while LIP contributes with its leading position in the Chinese vacuum industry. The Center for Vacuum Technology will form the platform for future projects and joint developments. As LIP announced during the opening ceremony, it will link the "Made in China 2025" initiative and the German "Industry 4.0" programs.
