Nexel network
Networking with suppliers increases efficiency
The mechanical and plant engineering industry is increasingly made up of lean companies that focus on their core competencies. It is therefore increasingly necessary to build up external know-how and to expand the existing supplier-customer relationship and bundle the entire know-how. For this reason, a group of machine and plant manufacturers initiated the "Nexel - Network of Excellent Suppliers". It is supervised and managed by Qesar from Bensheim.
"Our task is to organize best-practice cooperation between the partners and their suppliers with the greatest possible benefits for everyone involved," says Jochen Latz, Managing Director of Qesar. The initiators are a total of 26 mechanical and plant engineering companies from Germany with more than 12,000 employees, which produce 4,150 machines per year. The procurement volume of these companies amounts to around 500 million euros per year. Cooperation partners in this supplier network also include around 130 suppliers who are listed as preferred suppliers.
Joint projects between machine and plant manufacturers and their suppliers are initiated throughout the network. These involve different areas such as design, production, marketing, service, administration and management in order to create a systematic transfer of know-how between all participants under the motto "profit through communication".
Qesar's task is to expand the network and support all participating partners. The strategic goal is to have a total of 250 to 300 suppliers. As part of this network, the Nexel Symposium, which took place for the first time in September 2017 at the German Automuseum in Langenburg, is the central event for communication between the partners. Here, renowned experts presented topics of overarching interest such as "IT threats in industrial plants", the concept of the "cabinet-free packaging machine", China's strategic objectives and the associated opportunities for German mechanical engineering, as well as the topic of "robotics and mechanical engineering". As an additional promotional measure, the symposium also offers plenty of time and opportunity for extensive networking among the participants.
Networking on many levels
"We pursue a holistic approach and work on a wide variety of levels to improve the results of our cooperation partners both quantitatively and qualitatively," adds Matthias Schäfer. In quantitative terms, this is achieved by structuring and bundling volumes and supporting procurement marketing between mechanical engineering companies and suppliers.
In terms of quality, we work towards the strategic further qualification of all participants by proactively recognizing important trends and reacting to them in good time. In response to suggestions from within the network, topics of overarching interest are taken up, dealt with jointly by the machine and plant manufacturers and their suppliers in the form of projects and the results made available to interested partners.
