The Summit
Handing over the keys at ifm
At the official handover of the keys, the shareholders of the Siegen-based ifm subsidiaries joined representatives from politics and business to celebrate The Summit construction project in Siegen's Martinshardt industrial estate, which was completed in record time after just under a year and six months.
At Summit, hardware, sensor technology, software and IT expertise are concentrated in a way that rarely occurs at a single location. The Siegen division is therefore an important building block in ifm's digitalization strategy. The group of companies develops, produces and sells sensors, controllers and systems for industrial automation worldwide. The Siegen site is considered a software and technology location within the ifm Group. pmdtechnologies and ifm solutions with its subsidiaries GIB, ifm services and ifm software have been working at Summit since March. Just in time for the opening, other companies are also calling The Summit their home. These include Hill and Medocs as well as the ifm subsidiaries statmath and Virtual Retail.
"The Summit is technically well equipped," says Nadine Rahman. The building has its own data center with an oxygen reduction system and its own emergency power supply. With a high-tech location like this, an appropriate internet connection is a must and so it is connected to the network via a highly available and high-performance connection. The current 300 employees have their own canteen and fitness room at their disposal. In addition to the 450 workstations available, there are state-of-the-art measuring laboratories, clean room laboratories, a conference area and workshops. A parking garage with almost 300 parking spaces directly behind the building and a dedicated bus stop ensure an uncomplicated start to the working day. The Summit should therefore offer ideal opportunities for future top performance in the fields of IT, Industry 4.0 and sensor technology.
"The Summit brings a pinch of Silicon Valley to Siegen," explains Dr. Bernd Buxbaum, CEO of pmdtechnologies. On the one hand, there are good connections to the University of Siegen through research collaborations, including with the Centre for Digitalization of the Economy and the Centre for Sensor Systems. On the other hand, there are also colleagues in the Summit who are connected to the university through a dual study program. The idea and desire behind the Summit is to create a Siegerland center of high technology.
