Cloos welding technology celebrates anniversary
100 years of fire and flame
Carl Cloos Schweißtechnik has been one of the global technology leaders in welding technology for 100 years. The long-established company, headquartered in Haiger, offers solutions for all aspects of manual and automated welding. "We are proud to be one of the few companies in Germany that has been operating successfully in its segment for 100 years," says Cloos Managing Director Sieghard Thomas. "We have always pioneered welding technology with innovative products."
The engineer Carl Cloos founds the company in Siegen-Weidenau in 1919 to manufacture acetylene gas generators and oxyfuel welding torches. In 1924, the company moves to Haiger. In 1948, Cloos starts manufacturing welding systems for stick electrodes. 1956 Erwin Cloos presents welding with endless wire electrodes for the first time at the Hanover Trade Fair and introducesCO2 arc shielded arc welding technology to the European market. In 1978, Cloos uses industrial robots for gas-shielded arc welding for the first time. Cloos has been designing and producing its own industrial robots since 1981. The company later brings tandem welding and laser hybrid welding to market maturity.
Today, the product spectrum ranges from simple, compact systems to complex, interlinked systems with independent component identification and automatic loading and unloading processes. Users benefit from the broad-based welding expertise, as the welding specialists offer all relevant components from a single source.
"The demand for highly automated and intelligent robot systems in which the individual components of a welding system and higher-level systems are networked is increasing worldwide," explains Thomas. "That's why we are increasingly focusing on digitalization in product development." The new Cloos gateway C-Gate, for example, enables user-specific display, analysis and further processing of operating and welding process data.
The Cloos family business will be celebrating its special anniversary in May 2019 as part of a week of festivities. The welding specialists will be inviting German-speaking customers and interested parties to an anniversary conference on May 7 and English-speaking customers on May 8. pb
