Sweden, partner country of this year's Hannover Messe, is a technologically leading high-wage country that places a high priority on Industry 4.0 applications and automation solutions. According to Ulrich Ackermann, head of the VDMA, Sweden attaches great importance to the quality of its products due to the high manufacturing costs. The country is therefore an important sales market for German mechanical engineering companies. Exports rose by 3.5 percent in 2018 compared to the previous year.

However, experts expect investment activity by Swedish companies to be more subdued in 2019. The local industry is characterized by strong large corporations and a large number of smaller companies. Many Swedish companies are trendsetters in the use of new technologies - for example, in the use of AI and machine learning. According to experts, the northern European country is one of the leaders in Europe in this area.

Sweden is an important sales market for German mechanical engineering companies. The VDMA is represented in the country with almost 240 branches. These include assembly and production plants as well as research locations, sales and service branches.
